NASCAR The Game: Inside Line - Invisible Car Body Glitch

An interesting online glitch I ran into pre-patch was the disappearance of my car's entire body in an online match. I had seen this happen to other cars in a crashed-out lobby in NTG:2011. Unlike that situation, I was able to run the entire race like this. Other drivers commented on how they could clearly see through the roll-cage of my car, joking about my "unfair weight advantage."

It's actually reassuring to see how adjustments like camber do affect your car.

NASCAR The Game: Inside Line - Charlotte Big Screen Glitch

A few years ago, Charlotte Motor Speedway put in a giant LED screen on the back stretch so fans in the stands could watch the broadcast or see replays with ease. This has been included in NTG:2011, and it was also included in NTG:IL. The 2011 version often cast a distracting glare on the track for night races. The new version doesn't.

The big screen in-game shows whatever you see from your camera angle, even when the game is paused. So if you point it at the screen in photo mode, you can get some interesting results.

NASCAR The Game: Inside Line - Sonoma Camera Glitch

I was messing around with the camera in photo-mode at Sonoma/Infineon/Sears Point in the game, exploring different angles. Anyone who has moved the camera to extremes knows there are invisible walls all around that limit your viewing options.

Looks like you're stuck, poorly rendered camera man.

However, I slipped through a slight gap in the invisible wall where the track splits off from the NASCAR course to the carousel. This removed the limitations, and I was able to explore the track design from unique angles.

Here we see the world famous floating RV lot.

Even though this was only practice mode, you can see that the game designers included the full design of the track. It would be awesome if you could configure custom races where you run different hypothetical layouts.

Honestly, I wish they would allow more freedom with the camera. I may have made fun of polygonal cameraman up there, but nobody expects any of these sorts of details to be highly polished. There's no need to restrict camera angles in the hopes of keeping that sort of thing at a distance.

NASCAR The Game: Inside Line - Headlight Glitch

There are some useful features in the NTG:IL paint shop that weren't there in the previous game. For one, there's an automatic number system that even gives you the option of changing the outline color. You unfortunately can't change the size of the numbers, though, meaning you often have to do numbers manually to make your car look right. The game does include small "contingency" sponsors, which you had to redo manually in the previous game. This is a great addition. As in the previous game, you can turn on or off the manufacturer headlights and custom grill styles. You can also select colors for your wheels, fin, spoilers, etc.

I have noticed a few glitches though. For one, the spoiler cannot be painted or written on. Any attempt to put a design on it will just go through. This wouldn't matter, except the spoiler color selector simply doesn't work very often.

This spoiler is supposed to be white. It reverts automatically to whatever color the main body of the car is.

There are other issues with things "resetting" as well. Because of the number-sizing issue, I've often just turned off the automatic number stickers and made my own. They have an annoying tendency to turn back on at random, turning the sides and roof of the car into an unreadable jumble.

The same thing happens with the headlight stickers, but with a weird twist. If you're trying to make a car from a different era, it's often useful to turn them off. The game will randomly choose to turn them on. As an added, "fuck you," it rotates them 180 degrees, making your car look glitched out.

Notice how the small squares mid-way up are also glitched out.

Luckily, the problem with the numbers and headlights can be easily solved by going back in to edit your paint scheme, making sure those stickers are set to "off," and re-saving it.
